Newborn & Infant Care
What does a safe sleep environment look like? Unsafe sleeping conditions are the leading cause of accidental infant deaths.
Create a safe sleeping environment for your baby by following these tips:
Always put baby on their back to sleep,
even for naps.
Do not place baby to sleep in an adult bed,
couch, or futon.
Remove any blankets, pillows, toys, and
bumper pads from baby’s crib.
Make sure your crib is safety-approved
with a firm mattress and tight fitting sheet.
Keep baby’s head and face uncovered and
make sure they don’t get too hot.
Keep baby away from smoke, before
and after birth.
Offer a pacifier, once breastfeeding is
established.
Exclusively breastfeed for the first six
months. However, any breastfeeding is
beneficial.
Never shake or hurt your baby.
