HMHB will publicly recognize family-friendly businesses. Businesses who are recognized as family-friendly enjoy the patronage of customers who feel comfortable frequenting their establishment. Employers and their employees also experience the benefits listed above and may see a larger pool of qualified candidates interested in working for their business as a result of the positive publicity.

Congratulations to the 2015 Family-Friendly Award winner:
The DuPont Pioneer Waimea Research Center; Waimea, Kauai
With approximately 100 employees, this company has put several practices into place to assure it is a family-friendly business. The station manager has been a great supporter of the many working employees that also balance pregnancy, nursing and parenting young children. All managers have been trained on a written policy that requires information and support to be given to any employees taking maternity leave. A core team of employees who have been pregnant and nursed while working at Pioneer are also available to assist new expecting mothers. A portion of the main office was constructed into a “Health Works” room, which serves as a clean, comfortable, secure place for pumping breast milk. This room far exceeds all of the state requirements. Families are also welcome to visit and join employees for lunch, and a private soft rocking chair can help mothers to nurse their babies if they should visit the station.
