HMHB to Compete in 2013 Text4baby State Enrollment Contest
Aim is to reach 18,000 new moms each year throughout Hawaii with free health SMS service
HONOLULU ( July 11, 2013) -- With intent to reach the 18,000+ babies born each year in Hawaii, Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies Coalition of Hawaii (HMHB) announced its participation in the 2013 Text4baby State Enrollment Contest; a national competition to provide pregnant and new mothers with important information they need for their health and that of their babies.
Many infant mortality risk factors, such as short gestation, low birth weight and genetic conditions can be prevented with timely, high quality perinatal care. Through the text4baby service, HMHB seeks to address these issues in partnership with statewide nonprofits and government agencies, Hawaii health centers and birthing hospitals. Women who text "BABY" to 511411 receive three free text messages a week, timed to their due date or their baby's birth date, through pregnancy and up until the baby’s first birthday.
HMHB Receives $10,000 grant from Atherton Family Foundation
HONOLULU (July 10, 2013) -- Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies Coalition of Hawaii (HMHB) has received a $10,000 grant from the Atherton Family Foundation. Funds will be used for the Hawaii Cribs for Kids program to promote comprehensive safe sleep education and sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) prevention.
“Many sudden unexpected infant deaths can be prevented through education,” said Lisa Kimura, executive director. “This grant will help us promote safe sleep education for parents and family members to help prevent the tragic incidence of SIDS.”

HMHB Receives $5,000 FLEX Grant from Hawaii Community Foundation
HONOLULU (July 5, 2013) -- Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies Coalition of Hawaii (HMHB) has received a $5,000 grant from the Hawaii Community Foundation FLEX Grants program. Funds will be used for operating support of outreach programs and the establishment of a statewide breastfeeding education resource.
“This grant money will help immensely as we pursue our mission to enhance and promote health for mothers and babies,” said Lisa Kimura, executive director. “One of our community’s strongest public health needs is more support for breastfeeding mothers; this generous funding source will help enable HMHB to make it possible to meet the need.”
