A new Hawaii law takes effect today, requiring employers with 20 or more employees to provide reasonable break time and a private, clean place for their employees to pump milk for one year following the birth of their child.

A recent headline story brought attention to the need for more education about Hawaii’s Baby Safe Haven Law. This law protects parents who bring their unharmed child to a hospital, fire station or police station within 72 hours of giving birth. HMHB also discussed resources, including our free MothersCare Line: (888) 951-6661 and the importance of providing social and emotional support to pregnant women.

When two breastfeeding mothers were told they could not breastfeed while shopping at the military commissary, HMHB took to the news to inform women about their right to breastfeed in public, and how women are protected by federal and state law to feed their babies, regardless of any factors.

HMHB appeared with to share information every breastfeeding mom needs to know about your rights to nurse in public; how to do it comfortably; and current legislation aimed at improving rights for breastfeeding women.

Wake Up 2Day: “Keiki Talk” segment
HMHB appeared on the show to talk about crib safety and how to help your baby sleep safely. We demonstrated the proper crib setup; showing how bumper pads, pillows, blankets and toys are hazards. We also discussed how breastfeeding, not smoking and pacifier use are beneficial in preventing sudden unexpected infant deaths.
