Wedge-shaped vertebrae in the lower back might be the key evolutionary adaptation that helps human females maintain a stable posture over the course of pregnancy.
According to anthropologists, the human adaptation is unique among primates and may have arisen shortly after early humans started walking upright.

PERINATAL PROVIDERS MESSAGE BOARD
Legislative Update: June 24, 2008
Governor Linda Lingle has announced a list of 52 legislative bills and resolutions for possible veto. She has up to July 8th to make a decision. A partial list of the bills includes:
· System of loan repayments and other incentives for physicians and dentists to practice on the neighbor islands
· Create an early learning council to oversee an early childhood education system called Keiki First Steps
· Establish a commission to consider closing schools with declining enrollment
· Allow homeowners to use clotheslines to dry clothes after washing
· Expand inspection fee for invasive species to all cargo entering the state
· Raise surcharge on traffic violations to cover cost of trauma care
· Require cigarettes sold in the state to be fire safe
· Develop plan to return female prison inmates to Hawaii
· Allow permanent absentee voting
· Set up task force to study issues around medical marijuana
The Office of the Governor welcomes comment from the public on these bills.
